This is the amusing moment Canadian PM Justin Trudeau was left hanging after trying to get a high-five from Prince George.

The three-year-old prince, wearing navy shorts and a blue sweater, held his dad’s hands as he stepped off a plane after touching down in Canada for the family’s official tour.

The welcome party waiting on the tarmac included the Canadian PM and wife Sophie, Governor General David Johnston and wife Sharon, British Columbia premier Christy Clark and her son Hamish and Judith Guichon.

But when the Mr Trudeau, 44, got down on one knee and offered George a high-five, the prince shyly shook his head.

The Canadian PM, who was elected last November, then tried a different tack by offering George a low-five instead but without success.

Mr Trudeau laughed as his final attempt at a traditional handshake with Prince George was also denied.

George’s little sister Princess Charlotte was carried by their mum the Duchess of Cambridge, who wore a blue Jenny Packham suit with the Queen’s Diamond Maple Leaf brooch, which she also wore for the visit in 2011, and a matching hat by Lock & Co.
