All lines towards Gatwick Airport have been temporarily blocked after a person was hit by a train.

Southern Rail said the person was hit between Gatwick Airport and Brighton.

The train operator said all lines towards the airport are blocked “while emergency services tend to the person”.

Trains will be unable to run between Gatwick Airport and Brighton until the end of service, Southern Rail warned.

In a statement, Southern Rail said: “We have received reports of a person hit by a train and as a result all services between Gatwick Airport and Brighton are currently at a stand.

“Due to the nature of the incident the electricity supply has also been switched off to the track in the area.

“Emergency Responders from Network Rail and the British Transport Police are enroute to site to provide assistance to the train and the person involved.”
