BBC Radio 1 presenter Adele Roberts has been told she is free of cancer.

The DJ and Big Brother star had previously revealed a bowel cancer diagnosis and said she underwent surgery to remove the tumour in November last year.

She said in an emotional post on Instagram: “Hearing the words ‘you’re free of cancer’ absolutely took my breath away.

“I keep replaying it in my mind. It was the most beautiful sound I think I’ve ever heard.

“Even though I was praying Dr Khan would say that to me I don’t think my head let me believe it until I heard it.”

Roberts said she was in “awe” of anyone dealing with cancer, saying their courage, strength, determination and humour had been inspiring.

“Thank you to my family, my friends, everyone who’s taken time to message me, send love or positive thoughts. You’ve kept me going and helped me slay this beast,” she said.

“That’s one thing Dr Khan said to me. Your mind can go to dark places when dealing with cancer but that’s the one thing I knew I had control over.

“My body might have been dying - it’s still so sore now - but there was no way I was letting it destroy my spirit.”

Roberts first publicly revealed her diagnosis in October 2021 and had shared her cancer journey with fans on social media.

She has highlighted that cancer affects all ages and has urged people who have any worries to go see a doctor.

Alongside the heart-warming post sharing the good news, Roberts posted a picture of her with her doctor, Dr Khan, and of herself jumping for joy at the hospital.

She said she was now “happier than I’ve ever been,” and paid tribute to her partner, Kate Holderness, calling her “the reason I had the strength to get out of bed every morning”.

Roberts, who is known for her broadcasting work, has also appeared on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here, and has won a series of E4’s Celebrity Coach Trip.
