300 at service for Angelika

12 April 2012

The sister of a Polish student whose body was found in a chapel have paid tearful tribute to her "love of life" at a moving memorial service.

More than 300 mourners turned out to say goodbye to Angelika Kluk, 23, whose remains were discovered by police at St Patrick's RC church in Glasgow last month.

She had been living at the place of worship in the city's Anderston area while working in Scotland for the summer to help fund her studies back home in Gdansk.

Her father, Wladyslaw, was among those who flew from Poland to attend the memorial service at St Peter's church, in the West End of Glasgow.

Angelika's older sister Aneta, 28, who works as a secretary in Glasgow, urged mourners to remember the way the languages student lived and not the way she died. She said: "We are here to say goodbye to my sister in the place where she was happy for her last few weeks.

"I know that many of you didn't know her personally and the only way you know her is by her smiley face in the newspapers and media.

"You heard here that she was a quite special person, a quite special sister to me.

"I would love you to remember her not only by the fact of being in the media but also remember her by her enthusiasm and courage and love of life, of discovery, basically everything, being curious, having faith in people, having faith in everyone."

A 60-year-old odd-job man at St Patrick's, Peter Tobin, was charged last week with Angelika's murder.
