15-year-old faces kidnap bid charge

12 April 2012

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with attempted kidnapping after a man was shot at a pub, police said.

The incident happened in Croxteth, Liverpool, on Friday night, when a 33-year-old man was shot in the torso.

The victim was taken to hospital, where his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Merseyside Police said three people had now been arrested in connection with the shooting at the Lobster pub in Moss Way.

A spokeswoman said two boys, both aged 15 and from Croxteth, were arrested on Saturday. One was later charged with attempted kidnapping, while the other was released on bail pending further inquiries. The charged teenager will appear at Liverpool Youth Court on Monday.

Detectives executed a warrant at another address in Croxteth on Sunday morning and arrested another 15-year-old in connection with the attack.

After a search of the property, a quantity of ammunition was found and the boy was also arrested on suspicion of possessing ammunition.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the same address on suspicion of possessing ammunition and cannabis. Police said his arrest was not connected to the Lobster pub incident.

Detective Superintendent Paul Richardson urged anyone with information on the shooting to contact police.

He said: "If anyone has information, but is worried about coming forward, I'd like to take this opportunity to reassure them that there are special measures that can be put in place to protect witnesses in serious cases such as this."
