A 13-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being stabbed

A 13-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the street.

The youngster suffered a single knife wound to his back in the attack in which a dog suffered fatal stab wounds.

Police were called to Cherry Lane, Sale, Greater Manchester, at around 4.45pm on Saturday after residents raised the alarm.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Officers attended and found that a 13-year-old boy had been stabbed once in the back.

"He has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as now stable.

"A dog also received fatal injuries after suffering from knife wounds.

"Police inquiries around the area are ongoing and extra officers are on patrol to provide reassurance."
