Thameslink services halted after person hit by a train near Luton

A person has been hit by a train near Luton, bringing services out of London to a standstill.

British Transport Police raced to the scene in the Luton area just after 1.30pm on Tuesday afternoon to reports that someone had been struck.

Paramedics and air ambulance were also in attendance.

East Midlands Trains said the incident happened between Luton and Bedford.

The rail operator tweeted that passengers should expect delays between London St Pancras and Luton following the incident.

Thameslink also said its services were affected, with all trains between Luton and Bedford at a standstill shortly before 2.30pm.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "We were called at 1.40pm today to Luton to reports that a person had been struck by a train.

"Officers attended along with the ambulance service and air ambulance and the person is currently being treated at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious at this stage."
