Panicked passengers were led to safety from a train after a fire broke out in one of its carriages.
Footage taken from a platform at Kidbrooke showed clouds of smoke billowing around the station before fire crews arrived.
The London Fire Brigade said the incident had been a “small fire” in the front carriage of one of the Southeastern services.
A spokesman confirmed they had been called at 12.10pm on Wednesday but the incident was over around half an hour later.
One passenger complained on Twitter they were left stuck on a train because the power had to be turned off so crews could deal with the incident.
Southeastern said the problem meant trains were unable to travel on the Bexleyheath line towards Lewisham.
The fire came as the rail company’s passengers faced another day of huge disruption to services following a freight train derailment in Lewisham.
That derailment has meant some stations have had no train service since the carriages came off the rails on Tuesday morning.
A Southeastern spokesman said: “A small fire occurred underneath the driver’s cab on the 11.47am service from Kidbrooke to London Cannon Street.
"As soon as the driver became aware of this, he made an announcement to passengers, asking them to evacuate immediately onto the platform at Kidrooke station.
"Emergency services were called and the fire was put out. Network Rail engineers are working to move the train as quickly as possible to allow services to start running through Kidbrooke station again.
“Any passengers who have been delayed by 30 minutes or more are entitled to claim compensation via our Delay Repay compensation scheme.”
