Crash: A motorcyclist has died following a collision in Redbridge

A motorcyclist has died after hitting a van in north east London.

The man, 52, collided with the vehicle in Redbridge on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services raced to the scene at the junction between the A12 and Studley Drive shortly after 7am.

Paramedics fought to save the rider, who was found unresponsive at the scene, but he was pronounced dead a short while later.

The van driver stopped at the scene and was not arrested.

Local roads were closed for hours as police carried out an investigation into the collision. They have since reopened.

A Met Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 7.01am on Tuesday, 10 January, to reports of a collision between a motorcyclist and a vehicle in Studley Drive.

“Officers, the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade attended and found the rider unresponsive.

"The man, aged 52, was pronounced dead at the scene a short while later. Next of kin have been informed.

“The driver of the van stopped at the scene. They were not arrested and are assisting police with their enquiries."

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said: “We were called at 7.05am to a van and motorcyclist in collision in Studley Drive in Ilford.”

An investigation is being carried out by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Chadwell Heath. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact them on 02085974874.
