Crystal Palace footballer Pape Souare was airlifted to hospital after he was involved in a horror crash on the M4 motorway.
Emergency services cut the roof off the left-back's £100,000 Mercedes after the smash with another car yesterday afternoon.
Souare was taken to hospital by air ambulance but his injuries are not said to be life-threatening. The other driver is not believed to have been seriously injured.
Crystal Palace said today the star had sustained injuries to his thigh and jaw bone in the smash.
Pictures from the scene showed the car on the central reservation, with debris strewn across the motorway carriageway.
Concerned fans shared images of the Senegal international's badly damaged car on social media.
One fan tweeted: “Thoughts are with Pape Souare. This looks horrific.”
Police had been called to the accident yesterday just after midday, following reports that two cars had collided between junctions two and three.
Fire crews were called to the crash to cut free Mr Souare, who was trapped inside his vehicle.
A spokesman for the brigade said: "Crews used specialist cutting equipment to free the trapped man and he was removed to hospital by London Air Ambulance."
Souare signed for Palace last January from French side Lille. He was not involved in Crystal Palace's 2-1 away win over Middlesbrough on Saturday as he recovers from an injury.
