A motorcyclist has been rushed to hospital after serious crash with a bus in Lewisham.

Witnesses described dramatic scenes outside a bus garage in New Cross as one onlooker tweeted to say the biker was “trapped under the bus” following the smash just before 6.30am today.

New Cross Road was sealed off both ways as Met Police, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance crews rushed to help the motorcyclist.

A Met Police spokesman confirmed that a bus had hit a silver Yamaha motorcycle.

He said: "London Ambulance Service attended and took the motorcyclist to a south London hospital."

Their condition is currently unknown.

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.

Motorists described "madness" as they faced queues stretching as far as Kender Street in New Cross Gate and on the A2 towards Blackheath.

Buses were delayed and diverted for around four hours as emergency services dealt with the crash.
