A man is in hospital after being hit by a double-decker bus outside a Tube station in south London yesterday evening.

Police said the man’s condition following the crash was stable. He had been on foot when the collision happened near Morden Tube in London Road.

Paramedics and an air ambulance team from London Ambulance Service treated the man and took him to a south London hospital. The driver of the 163 bus was not arrested.

It follows a bus crash in Manor Park yesterday morning that left 10 people in hospital, including a man in his 40s believed to have sustained a head injury.

TfL bus chief Mike Weston said: "At about 6pm on August 29, a route 163 bus, operated by Go Ahead, was involved in a collision with a pedestrian in London Road. Emergency services attended the scene. There will be a full investigation into the incident."

A Met spokesman added: "Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 5.40pm to London Road, close to Morden Underground station, following reports of a bus in collision with a pedestrian.

"London's Air Ambulance also attended. The male pedestrian, believed to be in his mid-50s, was taken to a south London hospital where he remains in a stable condition. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening."

In excess of 700 people were taken to hospital in the first six months of 2015 after being injured on or by London buses, while nine died. Most of the injuries involved people tripping or falling while on board buses, although collisions also account for a significant number – just over 230.

The route 163 is run by Go Ahead subsidiary London General, which reported 39 injuries resulting in hospital admissions between January and June.

A 38-year-old man hit by a bus in Finchley High Road on Tuesday is still fighting for his life in hospital, police confirmed this morning.
