A road worker was fighting for his life today after a lorry ploughed into the central reservation and tipped over on the M25.

A large section of the motorway was expected to be shut for most of the day as emergency services worked to clear the articulated lorry, which lay across the carriageways where roadworks were being carried out.

It is believed the driver swerved as he lost control, causing the lorry to tip over and fall on to workmen near South Mimms, Hertfordshire.

Motorist Bruno Fernandes said: “You could see skid marks near the lorry where he lost control and flipped over.

“One of the roadworks supervisors was shouting at a woman saying there were two people trapped underneath and one had lost a leg.”
