Commuters were venting their anger after damage to electric cabling sparked severe delays at Paddington station during rush hour.

Damage to electric wires between Paddington and Ealing Broadway meant that trains must run at a reduced speed on some lines, Great Western Railway said.

Train services were expected to be cancelled or delayed by up to half and hour with disruption likely to continue until 8pm.

Passengers complained of being stuck on trains outside the station for up to 90 minutes, while others on the platforms said there was a lack of information.

Great Western Railway services between Paddington and Bedwyn, Maidenhead, Bristol Temple Meads, Penzance, Swansea, Reading, Hayes & Harlington, Great Malvern, Twyford, Taunton and Didcot Parkway were all affected.

And Heathrow Connect and Heathrow Express services were also disrupted.

Rush hour commuters took to social media to share their frustration as services were cancelled or delayed across the board.

One woman on Twitter, Helena Kopecka, reported being stuck on a train just outside Paddington for more than 90 minutes.

She wrote: "We have been stuck on a train just outside Paddington for 90 mins now!!! It is absolutely freezing in here. This is completely unacceptable."

Alan Muhammed complained that electric wire problems were "becoming way too frequent".

While Chris on Twitter said the service was a "shambles".

And Fiona Brown wrote: "Another disaster of a service tonight with almost no information and last minute cancellations causing confusion and chaos."

Great Western Railway tickets were being accepted on London Underground between Ealing Broadway/Acton and Greenford, according to National Rail.

Passengers were also able to use London buses via any reasonable route along the Paddington/Ealing Broadway/Southall/Hayes corridor.
