Commuters are facing disruption as Euston station closes for three weekends in a row.

Planned engineering works are set to close the busy central London hub starting this weekend.

The station will be shut on the following two weekends including the August Bank Holiday due to maintenance work on the West Coast route.

Euston is the main gateway to the North and midlands via Virgin trains. Trains will not stop at Euston with services ending and starting at Milton Keynes Central.

The company has recommended that passengers avoid travelling over the next three weekends unless "absolutely necessary."

Virgin Trains added: "If you choose to travel on these dates, you'll need to plan carefully and allow longer to get to your destination."

It has removed off-peak time restrictions after 9.30am on the last three Fridays in August.

Parts of the improvements will include upgrading North Wembley junction which requires shutting the entire line.

The company said it hopes that the improvements will make the route more reliable and robust.

Chiltern Railways has said that it will be adding extra carriages to its Birmingham to Marylebone route and has warned of large numbers of passngers predicted to use the service.

Around 40 per cent of fares will rise by this amount at the start of next year, including season tickets on most commuter routes, some off-peak return tickets on long-distance journeys and Anytime tickets around major cities.

Many long-distance commuters will see the annual cost of getting to work increase by more than £100.
