Commuters on the Central line have been hit by travel chaos this morning after a signal failure caused huge disruption on the entire route.

Transport for London is reporting severe delays following the earlier problems at East Acton.

Passenger Nik Clarke tweeted a photo of huge crowds, writing: "At North Acton @centralline red lights everywhere."

Signal problems started at 7am and have now been fixed, but there are still huge delays while services return to normal.

The line's Twitter account advised passengers this morning: "Apologies for the disruption, we're working hard to resolve this.

"Please use an alternative route where possible."

Passengers have flooded social media with complaints about the delays, with some complaining of being stuck on trains for up to an hour.

Rav Matharu tweeted: "What a joke. Been sat on this tube from Ealing for an hour. Not even at White city."

Zach Pepper joked: "Can someone get IT to forward all my calls to the @centralline - I'm working here for the day now. #SevereDelays."

And Sam Mckune ‏said: "2 stops in 28 minutes, then terminating my train surely isn't acceptable? Gimme a refund."
