Electric hire bikes that can be docked together like supermarket trolleys in a bid to stop thefts and cycles being left strewn around pavements are being planned for the capital.

Zoov e-bikes that click together at the handlebars are set to be launched in London within a year after a five-month trial in France.

If approved, it would be London’s first docked e-bike system.

The French firm said the 15mph bikes, which can go 37 miles on one charge, would cost about £1 to unlock, and then short trips would likely be charged at £2 to £3.

The first blue and grey bike would be clipped into a terminal and a further 19 cycles daisy-chained to it.
