Mobile giants Vodafone and CK Hutchison, which owns Three UK, have agreed a merger to create Britain’s biggest phone operator.

The deal, reportedly worth £15 billion, would make the new company larger than BT-owned EE, which is currently the country’s largest provider.

If it’s approved by the Competition and Markets Authority, the two groups say they want to build “one of Europe’s most advanced standalone 5G networks”

In opening remarks at Britain’s Covid-19 Inquiry’s, lead counsel Hugo Keith KC says the government gave “very little thought” into the “potentially massive impact” of a pandemic lockdown.

The hearing’s now preparing to take oral evidence from its first witnesses.
