Over 30 years on from his debut game, Super Mario’s popularity shows no sign of waning.

Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Odyssey is the fastest-selling Mario game ever in Europe, outstripping the previous record of Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii.

While Euro-specific sales figures haven’t been confirmed, Odyssey sold over two million copies worldwide in just three days.

Odyssey is also the new fastest-selling Mario game in North America, selling over a million copies in five days and beating the previous record of New Super Mario Bros on Wii.

Super Mario Odyssey marks the Nintendo mascot’s debut proper on the Switch console.

The game has received rave reviews from games media, including a rare 10/10 write-up from games magazine Edge.

The new adventure draws influence from Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy, tasking the plucky plumber with collected Power Moons hidden around various themed worlds.
