How to get the old Instagram app logo on your phone

Celebrate Instagram's 10th birthday with this nifty trick

Instagram is a whole ten years old (yup, we feel ancient, too), and to celebrate this milestone event, the tech company is allowing users to revert back to the OG app logo on their phones.

Since launching a decade ago, Instagram has undergone a huge transformation; the social media platform has gone from a simple photo sharing site to one of the biggest cultural phenomenons in the world.

But while the filters have improved and the platform has given birth to the "influencer", it seems many are embracing this "vintage" update (which stands to reason considering the outrage the new logo caused at the time!).

In a statement, Instagram said: “To celebrate our birthday, this month we’re inviting you to change your app icon to your favourite.

“Thanks for being part of our story and using Instagram to share yours".

So, here's what you need to know about the logo update...

How to get the old Instagram logo on your phone

Changing the icon is incredibly simple, too, all you need to do is go into the Instagram app, head to your profile and tap on the three lines in the top right.

Change your app icon in the secret settings menu
Instagram

This will bring up the settings list, pull down from the top of the screen and there you will find this hidden surprise.

An emoji will appear on the dotted line and then a virtual party popper will explore across the screen.

You'll then have a choice of all the icons Instagram has used throughout the years, from its very first to the Polaroid many will know and love.

If you can't see this secret menu, you will need to make sure your app is updated to the latest version.

Changing the icon doesn't have any effect on the actual app and you will still be using the current build.

Naturally, people who found out the hidden function took to social media to discuss it.

One person called it the "best thing" Instagram has ever done, while another asked for it to become a permanent option.

While the response is mostly positive, many others took the chance to take a swipe at Instagram, with another person on Twitter saying, "Instagram changed their icon now all they gotta do is fix their f*****g app".

It seems like being able to change the app will only be available next month, but perhaps we could see this being a permanent feature going forward.
