What’s better than a hot new Instagram feature? When it comes with a side of new music from Olivia Rodrigo.

While swiping through the Grammy-award-winning singer’s latest Instagram post, you’ll hear her latest track, Bad Idea Right?

Believe it or not, the option to add music to your carousels wasn’t possible until now. Alongside the revenge songs that helped us get over that one ex, we now have something else to thank Rodrigo for.

The new feature arrives in time to soundtrack your last-gasp summer Instagram photo dump.

But don’t overthink it; these days, the app is all about conscious carelessness. Unfiltered visuals captured on mobile phones have replaced Instagram’s overly curated influencer aesthetic.

That may explain why people are neglecting their Instagram grids in favour of direct messages and disappearing stories, according to Instagram boss Adam Mosseri. You’ll know if the new soundtrack feature is a hit if your feed is suddenly filled with musical posts from your mates.

Instagram has been testing the option in a few countries since April. You can attach a song of your choice to a carousel post in the same way you would on Stories or Reels. The app already has a similar option that lets you add songs to individual photos.

Instagram’s new feature is currently rolling out to users, so you may not see it right away.

As for Rodrigo’s new track, it turns her pop riot grrrl sound up to 11. The second single from her highly anticipated sophomore album, Guts, sees the singer debating whether to hook up with an old flame. We’ve all been there, right? And the answer is always no.

Instagram is also introducing a couple of additional new features, including the ability for creators to pin Reels made by fans who have used the interactive “add yours” sticker. You’ll also be able to credit up to three co-authors on a collaborative post.
