The final summer bank holiday of the year means one thing in London: Carnival. And whilst you’re pulling together the ultimate outfit and planning your route to the largest street party in Europe, there’s one extra thing you need to do before you go: download the Carnival app.

Created in collaboration with London-based event app developer Second Screen, the Notting Hill Carnival Official app is packed full with the essential information you need to enjoy the celebrations.

Thanks to the two detailed maps, the app serves up information on things like toilets, stages, sound systems and quiet areas – if you need a break from the madness.

The maps also highlight all the food stalls, including dietary information for the first time this year. Whether it's vegan or vegetarian food you’re after or you need to double-check an ingredient, the app will display it all.

In addition, the app will feature a news feed for Carnival attendees to meet and share photos and videos, as well as exclusive Carnival-themed stickers on the in-app camera. Be sure to keep notifications turned on as organisers will send up event updates this way.

In the run-up to the actual carnival which officially starts on Sunday, there’s a chance to vote for your favourite steel band taking part in the annual Panorama steel band competition, an annual Saturday night tradition. Taking place between 6pm and 11pm at Emslie Horniman Pleasance Park, the band with the most app votes will be crowned the Peoples’ Favourite

It’s going to be hot this weekend, with predicted highs of 30°C expected on Monday. In between all that Red Stripe and rum punch, be sure to keep stocked up on water. Apps like Hydro Coach (Android) and My Water Balance (iOS) will remind you to keep hydrated during the festivities.

For everything else, here’s our ultimate guide to Carnival.
