Emoji time: Here are all the new emojis coming to your phone in 2019

Last year it was a llama and a drunk face, this year it’s going to be all about the sloth and the waffle.

That’s right, here is your first look at the 230 brand new emojis coming to your phone in 2019.

Emojipedia has released the final emoji list for this year, detailing the all-new approved emojis for you to Slack, WhatsApp, or Instagram your friends with.

One of the big topics for this year’s emoji additions is people with various disabilities. First proposed by Apple, the accessibility emojis includes a guide dog and a service dog, people in two different types of wheelchairs, deaf people, as well as prosthetic arms and legs.

Apple worked with the American Council of the Blind, the Cerebral Palsy Foundation and the National Association of the Deaf, to create an initial starting point of emojis that cover different depictions of disabilities.

Other inclusivity additions to the 2019 emoji list include a gender inclusive couple, as well as emojis that permit a mix of skin tones for people holding hands.

When it comes to food, the glorious waffle has finally been included, a worthy addition as one of the best breakfast foods. There’s now an eomji for butter, onion, garlic and a juice box.

And 3pm will never be the same now there is a yawning face emoji to send to your pals.

In the animal category, alongside the guide dogs, there are emojis for flamingos, sloths, and an orangutan amongst a few others.

In miscellaneous objects, there’s now an axe emoji, a yo-yo, a white heart and a melting ice cube.

When will the new emojis come to my phone?

It’s always an exciting moment when the new emojis are announced but that’s just what this is: a new announcement by the new Unicode Consortium which selects the new characters for the year.

You’ll have to wait for your smartphone operating system to update before you’ll be able to actually use them.

This usually happens in the September or October of the year, when Apple releases its next iOS update, often after the launch of the new iPhone, and when Google unveils the next version of Android.
