Dating apps can be a minefield. Wouldn't it be lovely if someone could take away all that the pressure (and potential repetitive strain injury) of endless swiping away from you? Enter Ship.

A new app from Match Group and the media brand Betches, Ship lets your friends pick out potential dates for you.

Users of the app can swipe for their friends and chat about profiles so they do all the hard work for you.

Here’s how it works.

How new dating app Ship works

You download the app and then create a group of people who are allowed to swipe for you. Everyone is put together in a group chat where they can discuss potential partners, as well as share GIFs, and chat generally.

After setting some preferences, your friends will then be able to see profiles based on these criteria. If they see someone which is a good match, they can swipe right on the profile, which will bring them into the group chat.

Like other dating apps, the two single people need to match first before they can go on to chat and swap details.

At the moment, there’s only an iOS app and it's available in the US, UK, Canada, Brazil and Australia.

How did the partnership between Betches and Match Group come about?

Betches is a media brand for millennial women. Started by three friends in 2011, it grew off the back of memes on Instagram and Twitter, and now has a fully-fledged website, podcast, store and book.

In a post on the Betches website, the founders said: “As millennials, dating apps are a part of our collective experience, but the way we connect on these apps doesn’t mimic the real-life interaction that happens when people are out with friends. That’s why we’re excited to announce our new dating app, Ship, built to bring social connection back to dating.”

In the partnership between Betches and Match Group, Match provides all the tech expertise and infrastructure, whilst Betches focuses on branding and marketing.

The dating app scene is increasingly a crowded place, and there are other friend-matching apps out there, including Wingmaker, as well as being a feature on Hinge. But, everyone is looking for love in one way or another so you might as well widen your options.
