Make your own animated movies with new app Muvimi

This adorable app lets you make your own animated movies with Bitmoji-like characters

Let’s face it, nearly everyone has had their own pipe dream of becoming a film director one day.

Well, a new app Muvimi, from the London-based indie games studio Bigumaku, is here to make it happen.

Muvimi is a pocket-sized animated movie studio that allows you to create your own cartoon avatars and cartoon movies to share on social media.

It’s like Bitmoji, crossed with The Sims, crossed with Pixar. What’s not to like?

How to make a Muvimi Movie

To get your Muvimi characters ready, you need to start with the actor customisation tool. Choose hairstyles, clothes and accessories to make your avatar look like you or someone else entirely.

You can then animate the avatars in different ways, such as by programming movements and expressions, as well as letting them interact with props and other avatars.

If you really want, you can even give your character a voice. Using the app, you can record speech directly and then use automated lip sync technology to make your avatar talk.

There are different film sets available including a medieval fantasy setting for your very own Game of Thrones to Sci-Fi for the perfect animated space opera.

Play around with the movie maker to record clips and then select and order them in the editing suite.

Then you are ready to share your Muvimi creation with the world by sharing it on social media.

Speaking about the release of the new game, co-founder and creative director of Bigumaku James Wilson said: “Part of the magic of Muvimi is that it allows anyone to direct and start in their own film, no matter how unique the idea. We want to encourage everyone to unlock their creative genius and give them the opportunity to showcase their talent.”

You can only download the app on iOS for now, for free with in-app purchases, so only Apple smartphone owners can join in on the fun. However, Muvimi’s developers said an Android version is coming soon.

Ever since Bitmoji was officially integrated into Snapchat in 2016, people have been creating their own avatars and sharing them on social media.

There’s been an even bigger push for this customisable animation with Apple’s Animojis and Samsung’s AR Emojis. Apple took this one step further with its new Memojis, launched at its WWDC earlier this year.

Considering the success of Bitmoji and the like, it looks like Muvimi could be on to something here.
