London mums create app to tackle boredom and loneliness

Entrepreneurs: Katie Massie-Taylor and Sarah Hesz

Two lonely London mothers who craved adult conversation have created a location-based app for mums with children of the same age to meet up.

Mush, which includes a messaging feature and advice sections, has been launched on Apple iOS by Sarah Hesz and Katie Massie-Taylor. More than 5,000 London mothers signed up to the free app in the first few weeks.

The women, who each have two young children and live in East Sheen, first met in a school playground.

Mrs Hesz said: “I went up to Katie and asked for her number, it’s not the sort of thing I normally do but I was really lonely. I hadn’t had an adult conversation all day and you need mum-friends around to get you through those long days when you have young kids.

“It’s not as easy as it should be in this day and age to make those important friendships.

“It’s about having fun and making mums happy, which makes kids happy.”

The women have entered the Virgin Media Business Voom 2016 competition with hopes of reaching the final for a chance to pitch to Sir Richard Branson.
