EE customers in London were tonight hit by technical problems which left them unable to make calls.

The telecoms firm said there were issues affecting mobile users nationwide.

Responding to customers on Twitter, the company said engineers were working to fix the problem “as soon as possible”.

Signal problems only affected calls made from mobile phones to landlines, according to EE. But some EE customers on Twitter reported more widespread issues regarding complete signal loss.

Social media users on other mobile networks, including O2, also reported some connection issues,

In a tweet, EE said: "We're aware customers from EE and other networks are having issues calling landlines. We're looking into why and we'll keep you posted."

In a statement on their Live Status Checker webpage, O2 confirmed BT was investigating an issue with its network.
