Your older Apple kit has just sunk in trade-in value

Apple has downgraded its trade-in prices, with the iPhone 13 Pro losing £120 overnight
Apple is offering less on 25 out of 36 products

It is hardly a secret that tech’s value deteriorates from the moment you open the box, and Apple products – although generally less susceptible to sharp depreciation – are no exception.

Making that point is Apple itself, which has quietly lowered the trade-in prices it will offer on 25 of the 36 products it currently accepts as part exchange for new gear. Of the remaining 11, five have remained the same, while six have actually gone up in trade-in value.

First spotted by MacRumors, the price adjustments appear to be a global thing, rather than limited to the UK. You can see the new price list live on the Apple UK site, while the old prices were captured by the Internet Archive.

The biggest losers are owners of the iPhone 13 Pro, which dropped a massive £120 worth of trade-in value overnight, going from “up to £605” to “up to £485.” Oddly, the larger Pro Max only fell £60, dropping from £625 to £565, so there may be some form of supply and demand equation involved.

Pro handsets losing the most value was a theme, with the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max handsets dropping £55 each to £405 and £350 respectively, while the Pro iPhone 11 handsets fell £45 and £40 to £290 and £240.

Non-Pro models fell anywhere from £5 to £30, though some – like the iPhone 11 and iPhone XS – remained static. The iPhone 8 Plus, oddly, went up a fiver to £105.

Most of Apple’s iPads dropped between £5 and £25 in trade-in value, but only one Mac did – the iMac Pro. While the Mac Pro and MacBook remained the same, the MacBook Pro (+£5), Mac mini (+£20) and MacBook Pro (+£25) actually went up in value. As did the iPad Pro (up £5) and the Apple Watch Series 7, which went up a crisp tenner to £160.

We’ve compiled the full list of price changes below.

Of course, you will almost always be able to get a higher price if you sell your Apple gear on yourself privately via Ebay or Gumtree. But you do have to look out for scammers and potentially handle after-sale disputes should the buyer run into any problems.

Still, if you’re trying to shift an iPhone 13 Pro, you might consider that a price worth paying, given its sudden depreciation.
