Apple is recalling some of its Beats by Dre speakers over fears they could pose a fire safety risk.

The Beats Pill XL speakers have been found to overheat and set alight in some cases due to batteries overheating.

It comes after a customer complained they suffered from burns when the speakers overheated.

Customers who own the product are being asked to ship the speakers back to Apple in exchange for £215 or store credit.

A statement from Apple said: “Apple has determined that in rare cases the battery in the Beats Pill XL may overheat and pose a fire safety risk.

“Because customer safety is the company’s top priority, Apple is asking customers to stop using their Beats Pill XL speakers.”

The speakers can be identified by the Beats “b” logo located on the speaker grille and the words “beats pill XL” on the handle. It is sold in black, metallic, sky, pink, titanium and white colours.

Customers who own the speakers are asked to fill in an online form with their address.

Apple will then send a postage box to send the speakers back and after receiving it customers will be reimbursed within three weeks.
