An app which pays trendy young people to attend Hollywood parties and drink free alcohol is reportedly coming to the UK.

The Surkus app allows promoters to fill their event with the desired crowd in order to pull in more genuine punters.

Its members can earn between $10 (£7.50) and $150 (£115) for dancing in a nightclub or attending restaurant openings and fashion launches. Some members were paid to attend the Playboy Super Bowl party in San Francisco, for which tickets cost $1,250 (£958).

Since Stephen George, former head of operations at Groupon, launched the app 18 months ago, more than 150,000 members have attended 4,200 events, the Times reported.

The app’s purpose is to generate a buzzing atmosphere at the start of events as other guests arrive, and to keep it going through to the end when people begin to flag.

Users sign up with their Facebook profiles and are then matched with specific events by age, gender, social media following and other criteria.
