Here's why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle unfollowed Prince William and Kate Middleton on Instagram

It's nothing to do with their alleged feud

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just unfollowed Prince William and Kate Middleton on Instagram, but it's for a positive reason.

Rumors have been floating around about a feud between the royal couples for several months, allegedly due to a fall-out between the two princes after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding.

In March it was announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would have their own separate royal household, independent from Kensington Palace. At the time it was also reported that Harry and Meghan had asked the Queen if they could have total independence from Buckingham Palace too, a request the Queen allegedly denied.

In 2019, the reasons for unfollowing someone on Instagram usually involve one of the following scenarios. One, your boyfriend cheated on you with your best friend, and subsequently, you can’t stand the sight of either of them anymore. Two, your high school acquaintance is trying very hard to become a social media influencer, and if you see one more unsolicited makeup tutorial, you are going to be forced to annihilate your currently uncracked screen to the point of no return. Or three, you're in a fight with your brother and want nothing to do with him.

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s most recent Instagram post on their Sussex Royal account, the latter is clearly not the case for the brothers.

“May is Mental Health Awareness Month in the US and May 13-19 is Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK. To pay tribute to all of the incredible work people across the globe are doing in this space, we are hoping to shine a light on several Instagram accounts that promote mental well-being, mental fitness, body positivity, self-care, and the importance of human connection—to not just hear each other, but to listen,” the caption reads.

“We are all in this together. We invite you to explore the extraordinary stories of strength, and the commitment to kindness as seen in the above accounts. Each month we will honor this same concept and change the accounts we solely follow based on a different theme or cause. Please go to our homepage and click ‘following’ to see each of the select accounts and find out more about their work.”

Mental health is a particular area of interest for Prince Harry. He previously teamed up with his brother and sister-in-law to spearhead Heads Together, a campaign to help banish stigmas attached to mental health issues.

The campaign was driven in part by Harry's own struggles following the death of his mother, Princess Diana. “My way of dealing with [my mother's death] was sticking my head in the sand, refusing to ever think about my mum, because why would that help?” Prince Harry told The Telegraph in 2017, “[I was] very close to a complete breakdown on numerous occasions.”
