New photos released by designer Zac Posen have revealed Princess Eugenie's wedding reception dress – and, just like her wedding gown, it was purposefully designed to show off a scar on her back.

Photographs from the party had already revealed the front of the pretty blush gown, but new photos from the designer show its dramatic back. The dress she wore to the Windsor Castle ceremony earlier that day, designed by Peter Pilotto, had a similar shape.

The princess has spoken out on a number of occasions about her decision to reveal her scar, which she got when she received surgery for scoliosis in 2002.

“It's a lovely way to honour the people who looked after me and a way of standing up for young people who also go through this,” she said. “”I think you can change the way beauty is, and you can show people your scars and I think it's really special to stand up for that.“

And writing on the website of the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital, who performed the surgery, Eugenie describes her “happy” memories of the surgery.

“During my operation, which took eight hours, my surgeons inserted eight-inch titanium rods into each side of my spine and one-and-a-half inch screws at the top of my neck. After three days in intensive care, I spent a week on a ward and six days in a wheelchair, but I was walking again after that,” she wrote.

“But my abiding memories of the RNOH, where the surgery was carried out, are happy ones - everyone there was so warm and friendly, and they went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and relaxed.”
