It turns out even the Royal Family has a stash of old home videos, as footage of Queen Elizabeth and her late sister Princess Margaret as children has been revealed.

Shared to honour the monarch’s 94th birthday today, the “private footage” is part of the Royal Collection Trust and shows the pair in their childhood on seesaws, dancing and being looked after by the Queen Mother.

The Royal Family’s official Twitter account shared the black and white footage, which began with a young Queen Elizabeth being pushed around in a pram as she dragged a small horse and carriage toy behind her.

From there, it moved onto a clip of her and her sister Princess Margaret on a seesaw, as well as the pair running around on a grassy lawn.

The Queen, who is known to be an avid lover of both dogs and horses, was seen with in the footage seen below at a young age - posing amongst a group of well behaved dogs as well as gleefully mounting a horse. She was also seen smiling as a bird landed on her shoulder.

Other clips demonstrated her and her sister’s close bond, as Princess Margaret was seen copying Queen Elizabeth at one point and dancing together in front of a staircase.

The Queen Mother also made a couple of appearances, smiling for the camera as she gardened with her daughters.

The Queen will be celebrating her birthday from Windsor Castle today, where she is self-isolated with her husband Prince Philip. Although today is the actual date of her birth, it is publicly celebrated with a grand summer parade called Trooping the Colour which was scheduled for June 20 this year.

However, Trooping the Colour “will not go ahead in its traditional form” according to its official website due to the coronavirus pandemic. The site claims that a “number of other options are being considered, in line with relevant guidance.”
