'You're a bunch of nutters', Amanda Holden tells Westminster Abbey campers

Interviewer: Amanda Holden talks to well-wishers
10 April 2012

The band of well-wishers setting up camp in the shadow of Westminster Abbey swelled today as dozens more secured their spot for Prince William and Kate Middleton's big day tomorrow.

More than 50 tents lined Victoria Street close to the main entrance to the Abbey.

Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden described the campers as "a bunch of nutters" after interviewing some for American news magazine Inside Edition. She said: "There's an amazing atmosphere, everybody is so excited about the wedding, and it feels like a celebration of all things British."

Holden, mingling with the crowd in high heels and a bright red dress, joked with one group of American campers: "It's a brave thing to do, but I think you are a bunch of nutters."

Perhaps she was referring to hardened enthusiasts such as 67-year-old Claire Aston from Ealing who arrived without a tent yesterday afternoon and spent the night sleeping on a yoga mat "dressed like an onion, with lots of layers". She said: "The cobbles are hard but I don't really think a tent necessary. I was bothered more by Big Ben last night."

Meanwhile, David and Victoria Beckham joined the influx of celebrity guests heading to London to take their seats in the Abbey itself.

The couple were photographed at Los Angeles International Airport with sons Brooklyn, Cruz and Romeo at the start of their journey to the capital.
