MPs' friends and families get best views of the procession

10 April 2012

MPs are to get grandstand views of the royal wedding from Parliament - with some planning champagne parties to celebrate the marriage.

Andrew Rosindell, the Conservative MP for Romford, is leading the party charge.

Mr Rosindell is inviting his 86-year-old mother Eileen, his staff and a few friends to watch the event from his office in Portcullis House which has a spectacular view across Parliament Square.

"I can see the whole thing from here. It's an opportunity not to be missed," he said.

Flags and bunting have already gone up in his room.

Fellow Tory James Gray will also watch the procession from his office in Portcullis House with family and friends. "It will be great," he said.

Graham Brady, the chairman of the Conservative backbench 1922 committee, is expecting to invite a few colleagues and his staff to his office in the same building.

The MPs with the best views are those with offices on the higher floors of 1 Parliament Street.

A number of Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat MPs have rooms in this building.

Security at Parliament will be tight with many of the entrances closed for all or part of the day.

The best offices on the parliamentary estate are highly sought after, especially those with views over Parliament Square and the Thames, while others, given to newcomer MPs, have no windows.
