City and other business chiefs are to get a VIP visa service to come to Britain.

The invitation-only Great club will benefit about 100 tycoons, entrepreneurs and business gurus with strong links to Britain.

Members will still have to go through the same visa checks as ordinary travellers.

But they will be provided with a dedicated account manager to ensure their journey through the system is “swift and smooth”, the Home Office said.

The scheme will operate as a 12-month pilot, starting in the new year. Home Secretary Theresa May promised to “continue to listen and respond to the needs of high-value and high-priority businesses”.

She added: “These changes will allow us to maintain a world-class, competitive visa system that can innovate in order to serve the ever-changing needs of business.”
