Tom Watson has survived a bid to oust him as deputy Labour leader.

However, he could still face the boot on Saturday when Labour's National Executive Committee (NEC) is to examine move to abolish the post of Labour's deputy leader.

Mr Watson has publicly clashed with Jeremy Corbyn on a number of occasions.

He recently called for a new Brexit referendum to be held before a general election.

It has been reported that Momentum was behind Friday's move to remove Mr Watson.

MP Wes Streeting hit out at the group and tweeted: "To try and remove our Deputy Leader @tom_watson isn’t just outrageous, it’s self-destructive and must stop."

Saturday marks the start of the 2019 Labour Party conference in Brighton.
