Sky News presenter Adam Boulton made an on-air blunder this morning when he described a disagreement over Brexit supporters as “b*****ks”.

The veteran journalist had been speaking to LBC broadcaster Iain Dale for Sky’s All Out Politics programme, when he thought they had gone off air for an ad break.

The two presenters had been discussing a potential next leader for the Conservative Party and disagreed over the political allegiance of Brexit voters.

Mr Dale refuted Mr Boulton’s suggestion that Theresa May would hand over her premiership to the right wing, saying: “I think that’s a total misreading of it. What do you mean ‘handing it over to the right wing’?

“Somebody who happened to support Brexit, is that the definition now? Brexit means right wing?

“Because a lot of labour voters might disagree with you on that.”

Boulton defended his comments by insisting that he was referring to the Brexiteer wing of the Tory party and the expectation that the government’s next leader would have to be a Brexiteer.

As the screen cut to the programme's "coming up" tasters, Boulton can be heard saying: “See, this thing about the right wing, I think it’s b*****ks.”

Boulton took to Twitter shortly afterwards to apologise for his mistake.

“Apologies. I thought we were off air. My point was that in Conservative Party there is an overlap between hard brexiteers and what is termed ‘the right’” he wrote.

One Twitter user commented: “To be honest I think you got it spot on”.

It isn’t the first time Boulton has used the b-word in political debates.

In January 2019, he responded to an accusation by astronomer Chris Leigh that “your only motivation is to get your agenda across. You are an activist, not a journalist” by tweeting: “B*****ks. Not true.”
