Samantha Cameron regularly makes breakfast for homeless people in London, the Prime Minister revealed today.

“She goes to a homeless charity called The Passage which feeds homeless people in the morning, so she goes off and does that,” he said.

Mick Clarke, the charity’s chief executive, said Mrs Cameron had been coming “for many years” as a volunteer to make or serve breakfast, giving around 90 minutes of her time.

“She has been coming for years, not every week, but regularly,” he said. “The great thing about our volunteers is they are a diverse group from all walks of society.”

Around 200 people a day are helped at The Passage, near Victoria, including about 100 rough sleepers who are given breakfast.

Mrs Cameron was pictured cooking in its kitchens in 2010 but it was not known that she still visits.

The Prime Minister and the Cabinet were given a lesson in how to help people with dementia make a cup of tea this morning.

A nurse from St Thomas’ Hospital gave them training as Dementia Friends. Mr Cameron marked the event by tweeting from Cabinet for the first time, saying: “A brilliant presentation by @DementiaFriends at Cabinet. I want ministers to ensure staff in their departments join this great scheme.”
