This is the moment a panicked Boris Johnson staffer snatches his coffee – because it was in a disposable cup.

The Prime Minister was being filmed on a walkabout at the Tory Party conference centre in Manchester on Tuesday when one of his aides handed him the offending cup.

A scene reminiscent of political satire The Thick of It then played out.

“Thank you,” a grateful Mr Johnson told his colleague.

But another aide’s ear had pricked up and she spotted the cup. “Ohhh,” she murmured.

Playing along, the Prime Minister then asked “what’s this?” as she took the cup from his hands.

“No disposable cups,” she could be heard muttering as Mr Johnson sheepishly walked on.

Environmental campaign group Greenpeace immediately seized on the viral footage, tweeting: "We agree with your aide @BorisJohnson - no disposable cups!"

Mr Johnson later tweeted picture of himself with a "get Brexit done" mug.

"I got my coffee in the end," the caption read.
