Nigel Farage has revealed he sang chants about Britain winning the Second World War at his estranged German wife during football clashes between the two countries.

In an interview with Piers Morgan, Farage said he had sung “Two World Wars and One World Cup” to second wife, Kirsten – who recently revealed the couple were living separately.

The former UKIP leader also said his wife would hang out German flags during England games, in the interview for Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.

The presenter said to the former UKIP leader: “It’s just so ironic isn’t it that there’s you, the great UKIP trailblazer taking on the European establishment and there’s your wife with her German flags…”

Farage replied: “It’s quite funny really isn’t it.”

Speaking about the state of his marriage, which was recently believed to have hit a rough patch, he added: “I’d describe it as being a bit like most others really - all marriages, all relationships have huge ups and down.

“If it still exists now then it could possibly survive anything, couldnt it?”

Piers also grilled Farage on his position as an MEP and claims he was 'the most hated man in Brussels'.

To which he responded: “I am the most hated figure that’s ever been in that place, every time I get up to speak hundreds of people boo and jeer.

“Do you know what Piers? I couldn’t care less.”

Defending comments made in an interview in which the politician claimed British families should be wary of Romanian men moving into their streets, Farage said: “How would you feel if a gang of Romanian men moved in next door to you? Would you be comfortable? (was the question I was asked).

“I said: ‘Well of course people wouldn’t be comfortable.’

“I was reflecting the truth. Frankly you wouldn't be happy if a group of any men moved in next door.”

He then accused Piers of playing a “Trump trick” – referring to the American president’s scathing claims that he has been manipulated by journalist in a bid to make his comments sound more offensive.

He added: “I was asked a question, I gave an answer, I just shouldn’t have answered it.

“Yes (it was a mistake), I just shouldn’t have answered it.

“It’s not racist, obviously, but that’s what people have been trying to (say).”

Piers Morgan’s Life Stories: Nigel Farage airs on ITV on Friday at 9pm.
