Three more London boroughs have announced they plan to freeze — or cut — council tax in a bid to help struggling households.

It means 26 of the capital’s 33 local authorities are keeping the tax at the same rate as last year with a further three cutting.

Westminster, a flagship Tory council, announced it planned to freeze for the next two years.

The town hall will now be able to claim the title of the lowest Band D council tax in the country for the second year in a row. It also plans to freeze on-street parking charges to boost trade in the West End.

In Croydon, the council proposed giving council taxpayers £25 off next year’s bills as well as keeping the current rate the same.

Hounslow became the third borough to pledge to cut tax next year — proposing a reduction of 0.5 per cent.

Barnet has already announced it is cutting the tax by one per cent while Hammersmith and Fulham’s is falling by three per cent.
