Two police officers embroiled in the Plebgate row have lost their jobs.

Pc Keith Wallis, 53, and Pc James Glanville were dismissed for gross misconduct, Scotland Yard said.

Andrew Mitchell, then Tory chief whip, was involved in a heated confrontation with another police officer, Toby Rowland, after he was refused permission to cycle through the main gate of Downing Street on September 19, 2012.

Mr Mitchell, who was accused of calling the officer a "pleb", was forced to resign his post following a month of intense media interest in the story.

Glanville, who was not on duty on the evening of the row, was found to have passed information about it to The Sun newspaper which he then lied about in police interviews.

The Crown Prosecution Service said in November last year that he would not face charges over the incident.

Three outstanding gross misconduct hearings are likely to take place in April and May this year, police said.
