A parliamentary candidate has risked alienating his electorate on polling day after the name of the constituency was spelled incorrectly on campaign leaflets.

Emmett Jenner is contesting the seat Bromley and Chislehurst for the UK Independence Party. But according to election literature sent to thousands of homes this week, he is actually standing for Bromley and "Chiselhurst".

Mr Jenner, 28, blamed the gaffe on party officials who prepare campaign materials. The candidate said he has lived in the area since he was four and the spelling was correct when he sent information to Ukip's publicity department.

He did not see a proof before it was sent to voters. Mr Jenner, who runs a car maintenance business, said: "Obviously it is better if you spell the name of the constituency correctly but I'm not too upset because I know the mistake wasn't mine.

"I'm happy that at least the leaflet is out there and in people's homes." Ukip claimed it was a minor mistake made by the printers.
