Liam Fox today won an early victory in his defamation case against a millionaire.

The former defence secretary is suing Harvey Boulter over comments made before Mr Fox resigned from the Cabinet in 2011, after a storm over his adviser and best man Adam Werritty.

At the High Court, Mr Justice Bean found in Mr Fox’s favour at a preliminary hearing over the meaning of an interview on the Sky News website. But he rejected claims that a broadcast on Sky News was defamatory.

The row centres on whether Mr Fox would give evidence to help Mr Boulter in a legal battle.
