Vanessa Mae's set to take a plunge at Winter Olympics

Sochi just got a little more interesting. Violinist Vanessa Mae has succeeded in her efforts to compete in the skiing event at the Russian-staged Winter Olympics, which open in three weeks’ time. The musician, who identifies as British, but will represent Thailand due to her father’s heritage, has long harboured dreams of competing, with her manager confirming she had qualified “by a whisker.” “I am taking a plunge,” Mae said in 2010. One hopes not literally.
