Tweeds and checks rule in Tower 42

There’s not much more pleasure to be had on the London restaurant scene than the côte de boeuf at Jason Atherton’s Social Eating House in Poland Street. Now the Michelin-starred chef is opening a new restaurant, the City Social, in Tower 42.

Atherton is a pretty humble chap. He insisted on calling The Londoner “ma’am.” What also stood out were the barmen in tweed waistcoats — a move to distinguish them from the City gents. Atherton wasn’t quite in tweed himself. “That’s a window-pane check,” said top model David Gandy at the party, himself in a Prince of Wales check.
