Tim Montgomerie stands down as Times’ comment editor

Tim Montgomerie, founder of ConservativeHome and once dubbed “the most powerful Tory outside the Cabinet” by the Observer, has unexpectedly stood down after just a year as the Times’ comment editor.

He has always denied any desire to become a MP but there’s speculation that his move may signal a change of heart.
