There could be life in the Lib-Dem conference yet ...

Out: Chris Huhne as he is released from Leyhill Prison
13 May 2013

Chris Huhne’s strikingly early release from prison may have one interesting consequence. It means he will be in time to meet the deadline for applications to attend the Lib-Dems’ annual party conference which starts on September 14 in Glasgow.

Huhne and his girlfriend Carina Trimingham attended last year’s conference, even while his legal troubles loomed. “Chris is such a talented gossip and plotter that no conference is quite complete without him,” says one Westminster old-timer.

“Given Nick Clegg’s almost non-existent popularity and the ambitions of various top Lib-Dems to topple him, Glasgow should be a stewpot of schemes and stratagems.”

Huhne will be in his element. So too will his ex-wife Vicky Pryce, I imagine, who doesn’t like to miss party conference either. Perhaps this would be the ideal time to launch her memoirs.
