That's the Attitude: Peter Tatchell leaves his tux at home for this one

Another victory for the Londoner. Peter Tatchell has promised never to wear a tuxedo again, after I noted that he had donned the official outfit of the imperialist white patriarchal oppressor for an awards ceremony.

“You made a good point in the Diary about how ridiculous it was for me to cave in to pressure to wear a tuxedo when accepting a National Diversity Award,” he tells me. “ I’ve learned my lesson, sort of. At the Attitude Awards, I got back to my roots and resisted the pressure to conform. I didn’t don a tuxedo. Just a white shirt and black tie.

“Thanks for keeping me on track. Some people might say that accepting an award alongside Gary Barlow, Sir Ian McKellen, Will Young, Lady Gaga, Clare Balding and Lynne Featherstone MP makes me part of the Establishment. I hope not.”
